There is only four weeks to go until the streets of St Pauls are filled with 100.000 Carnival attendees. To make this celebration on the 6th July the huge success it deserves takes hundreds of volunteers, just like you!! With a wide variety of roles on the day meaning everyone can find their place in the Carnival team. The true Carnival spirit is everyone being involved in making it happen so THANK YOU from the start for your effort and enthusiasm. You are Carnival!!
To prepare you and as one of the perks for volunteering there is:
The Volunteer Training Day on Saturday the 15th June
At Hamilton House, 1st floor, 3A event Space.
80 Stokes Croft, Bristol BS1 3QY (Above The Canteen)
Starting at 10am and finishing at 5:00pm with regular and lunch breaks
You will be taking part in and receive on the day a
BTEC L2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events
This is an accredited course and will look great on a C.V. Also a valuable qualification if you want to work in the events industry or beyond.
The BTEC award covers the following 4 units:
-Unit 1: How Stewards Prepare for Spectator Events
-Unit 2: How Stewards Control the Entry, Exit and Movement of Spectators at Events
-Unit 3: How Stewards Monitor Crowds and Respond to Potential Crowd Problems at Spectator Events
-Unit 4: How to Respond to Injuries, Illnesses and Other Emergencies in Active Leisure and Learning
During the day we also will include
- Background to Carnival and what will happen on the big day its self
- Basic First Aid Training
- Site walk
- Bring your own lunch or cheap food is available at the Canteen below
- Social drink or two afterwards to celebrate at the Canteen bar just below.
I hope to see as many of you as possible there. This will give you a great qualification and prepare you for Carnival day. I promise that we will make it as fun as possible. It is delivered by myself and Holly Solo-Hawthorn who is a very well respected event teacher and professional. It will be a great way to meet other volunteers and get excited about your place at Carnival.
Tell anyone you know who might want to attend as we need as many volunteers as possible invite your friends / family / colleagues and get them to sign up on www.stpaulscarnival.net
This is a different qualification than the one we ran last year, so well worth attending even if you did the training day last year. If you are under 19 years old or have not lived in the country for over three years we will give you a Carnival Certificate instead, this is due to the way this is funded but it will be the same in principal.
If you can just drop me a quick email with your name to firstname.lastname@example.org it will help me to prepare the room. The main thing is to come on the day and if you cannot make the whole day then come for any part you can. To gain the Btec you will need to have been there for the majority of the course but if you can only pop in we can have a one to one chat about your place at Carnival.
Don't Just Spectate, PARTICIPATE...
We pledge to each St Pauls Carnival volunteer:
- Free limited edition T-Shirt
- Official Carnival Certificate
- Ticket to an Official Carnival After Party
- Make friends and have fun
- C.V. Reference
- Event management and first aid course - 15th June Training Day
- An essential and valuable role in the lead up
- Work only one shift on carnival day with plenty of time off to explore.
Look forward to seeing you on the 15th.
